Support Megan's work in Haiti!

My name is Megan Word and I was born and raised in Kansas. I received my Bachelors and Masters of Social Work from Wichita State University!
My social work career has developed from opportunities serving families in schools, reintegration foster care, and non profit agencies. This past year I have loved working with families pursuing domestic and international adoptions. This job also increased my knowledge of teaching and training on trust-based relational interventions (TBRI) and caring well for children from difficult backgrounds.
In 2017, God started stirring my heart to make a leap of faith. God continued to ask me to leave my job and trust him with the rest. After resigning in Apri, He laid the path to Haiti Mama. I will admit he prompted the plan in his perfect timing (not mine).
In international adoption you hear stories. Many great stories. But also stories you can't forget. For example: adoptive parents being asked to meet their child's biological birth parent; a birth parent who visits the orphanage every week. A parent that adores their child but doesn't have the current capacity to care for their child.
hese stories, and current statistics about orphans, don't make sense until you see the visually assaulting poverty.
ith ery trip to Haiti and time spent with an adoptive parent, I know God was preparing my heart for Haiti Mama.
My professional goals:
- Support the existing agency with my strengths, tools, and time
- Share empathy and compassion
- Practice culturally competent social work (and learn as much as possible from Haiti Mama's Social Workers)
My personal goals:
- Grow in my perspectives on family and culture
- Trust God's faithfulness (2 Corinthians 12:9)
