#GodMagic is alive in Haiti Mama! Let us briefly share with you some of the exciting ways that we have seen His hand at work, and let you in on our goals moving forward.
Over the last two years Haiti Mama has seen tremendous growth and success in its programming: 15 children were rescued from the street and reunited with their families! These families have been moved from living on the streets, to living in homes. Parents have learned trades and are able to support their families. Social services, spiritual development, education, housing assistance, and medical care are provided to all the families in Haiti Mama’s program. It’s exciting to see God provide for these families to become self-sustaining and truly thrive!
During a recent visit to a local orphanage, Haiti Mama found that two children with disabilities were being completely neglected and were in urgent need of medical attention. These two sweet children, Junior and Saraphina, have now been successfully placed into crisis care in an orphanage that is equipped and trained to care for children with disabilities. Praise the Lord!
While these children are currently thriving and happy in their new home, there are many other children with disabilities languishing in orphanages that are not equipped to handle their special needs. Haiti Mama has a vision of assisting these children by locating the most appropriate placement for them - whether it be in an orphanage that specializes in disabilities, or in home-based care with of some of Haiti Mama’s families.
Another goal of Haiti Mama is to establish a location in Haiti to further the services provided to local families. This location will be used to provide alternative education, job training, and crisis beds. It will be a huge asset and we ask that you join us in prayer over this next step in Haiti Mama’s journey to continue tackling the tough issues:
Attending to those who are forgotten and neglected. Seeking to bring justice and restore dignity to the lives of families. In Haiti there are no effective systems in place to provide the people an opportunity to thrive. The educational system in Haiti is broken, jobs are scarce, and children with disabilities do not have access to proper care. Despite these formidable barriers, Haiti Mama has become a beacon of hope and healing.
Currently Haiti Mama employs five Haitian social workers and one mama. In addition, Tausha Pearson, Executive Director, and Talia Pearson, Operations Manager, are employed by Haiti Mama. As Haiti Mama has grown, so has the need for increased support. Tausha has always ensured that her employees are paid and that all programming is funded before taking a salary for herself. Often Tausha has only received a third of her budgeted salary. As a single mom of two boys and the founder and Executive Director of Haiti Mama, we want to ensure that she has the proper funding in place to continue her work in Haiti.
There is currently an urgent need for increased giving to support Tausha and her boys. Please join us in supporting Tausha and her efforts for Haiti Mama! Your monthly commitment will also help ensure that Haiti Mama is able to move forward in providing care to the children and families that it serves, as well as reaching those who are still living on the streets in poverty, void of the hope that is in Christ Jesus. With your contribution to Haiti Mama, you will give dignity to those who never thought it possible.
