Marta’s story with Haiti Mama is an emotional one. Her son Mackenwood was one of our first disability care kids. She was young when she had him, and was unable to care for him. When Mackenwood moved to Haiti Mama, a nanny at the orphanage he was at gave us Marta’s phone number. He was the only kid that came with any family ties. Marta begin visiting her son for the first time in many years at HM, and then he passed suddenly. The doctors believe his appendix ruptured. We were so thankful that Mackenwood and Marta had found each other again before he left us, and fell in love with her as a person. Marta now works full-time with her son’s lifelong friends in our DC program.
